The first thing is that many people are talking through their computers. It used to be that many people needed calling cards to talk to troops. However, many of the troops take laptops with them and therefore, they have access to internet sites that allow you to call from the internet. Some just chat with a microphone through instant message. So, this has decreased the immediate need for calling cards.
Another reason that people don’t use calling cards as often is because most land line phones now have long distance. If you don’t have long distance someone might call you who do have long distance. Therefore, you don’t have to make a call. This is a nice feature.
Another thing that we have found with calling cards is now that cell phones are the real deal; there is no need for calling cards. Even if you can’t get a contracted phone, you can get what is called a pay as you go cell phone. This is where you pay for the minutes as you go. You aren’t subjected to any contracts.

However, as the cell phone first came out, many found that they could get a cell phone and they wouldn’t’ have to spend as much on calling cards as that cost a good deal of money.

There are still some who use it, but you will find that places that sell calling cards don’t sell as many as they once used to.
One of the reasons that we have found that others give is that many times, the calling cards were just a hassle. There were times they didn’t get a pin. There were times that they were having a hard time understanding how you place the call. Something else we even noticed was that you blew through the minutes in nothing flat. This all was very disturbing and now they are becoming somewhat extinct as more and more people look into cell phones. While some troops still use them, many say it’s just a few years before there is no need for them at all the way technology is going.
